Some facts about Bali

  • The distance between Melbourne, Australia and Denpasar, Bali, Indonesia is 4409 km (2381 nautical miles)

  • The island of Bali has an area of only 5,632 square kilometers (2,175 square miles) and measures just 90 kilometer along the north-south axis and less than 140 kilometers from East to West.

  • You can expect pleasant day temperatures between 20 to 33 degrees Celsius or 68 to 93 degrees Fahrenheit year-round. From December to March, the west monsoon can bring heavy showers and high humidity, but usually the days are sunny and the rains come during the night and pass quickly.

  • Bali's population has grown to over 3 million people the overwhelming majority of which are Hindu. However, the number of Muslims is increasing through immigration of people from Java, Lombok and other areas of Indonesia who seek work in Bali.

The Balinese cuisine is an interesting one: if you like rice and spicy food, there are enough dishes to try, you won't be disappointed ! But also many of our foods can be found on Bali: McDonald's, PizzaHut, KFC, and many more.

Culture in Bali

The culture of the Balinese people is really one of a kind: it has many unique ceremonies (Nyepi, Galungan, Kuningan, Bulan Purnama), dance & music performances (kecak, ramayana, gamelan, wayang kulit) and arts (architecture, paintings, sculptures).

Although Bali has some modern cities with big air conditioned shopping malls, you can still find some small traditional villages excluded from modern technology. In those places you can enjoy the 'old-fashioned' ways of living of the Balinese people.
